Father-Daughter Gathering has been postponed

The 2016 Father Daughter Gathering has been postponed until 2017 because of insufficient registration.  We will add information on this website as it becomes available.

Mr. Edward Bear (Pooh) cordially invites you to:

 The Annual Father/Daughter Gathering

Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

May 27-30, 2016

When your back’s against the wall
just turn around and you will see
I’ll be there to catch your fall
so have a little faith in me

The New Mexico Men’s Wellness Father/Daughter Gathering offers a safe environment for Fathers and Daughters to explore their special relationship away from the distractions of day-to-day family dynamics and all-round busy-ness.

fire-circle-2015-RHThe Father/Daughter Gathering has been held since 2005, and has become one of the core events of NM Men’s Wellness. The mission of the Gathering is to enable Fathers and Daughters to gather, honor, celebrate, and grow in their unique relationship.

As we approach the 12th Gathering, one topic has come up over the years in many variations: how can father and daughter best support each other? As our father-daughter relationships mature, and we face, or prepare to face, a variety of challenges, such as – just to name a few – overcoming past differences, distance (physical or emotional), finding time for each other, the aging process, health issues, how can we help one another? Or ask for the help we might need? What gets in the way of giving or asking for help? How will we handle a possible role reversal in caring? What sort of support can we offer? Emotional? Physical? Financial?

IMG_3070Winnie-the-Pooh and his collection of friends seem to know plenty about how to support one another, in spite of their widely differing personalities. Some of their tales will form a loose “jumping off point” for exploring and evaluating the areas where we might need support, the ways we think we want to provide support, and the means to communicate our needs to one another.

This year’s Gathering is scheduled over the Memorial Day weekend, running from late Friday afternoon May 27 through Monday morning, May 30. This three night framework allows time for both structured events and for relaxing.  Scholarships are available for those who need them; please see the Scholarship section below for more information.

Registration has been closed and the Gathering postponed until 2017.  The cost for the Gathering is $290 and includes 3 nights lodging in simple yet comfortable accommodations, 8 meals (Friday evening through Monday morning), all gathering activities and a  T-shirt designed just for this year’s Gathering.  Access to all of the hiking trails, library, museums and other Ghost Ranch facilities is also included.  Daughters must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the gathering; any exceptions to this policy must be cleared in advance by the gathering leaders (see contact information below).

We have an all-online option for registration where you can register by completing an online form and paying with a credit card or PayPal in a single simple step.  You may also register by filling out a registration form and sending it with a check in the mail.  Registration is first come, first served based on when your payment is received.  Due to space limitations, we have allowed for 30 participants (15 fathers and 15 daughters) with a waiting list beyond that.

lunch-2015-RHEarly sign-up is encouraged (and greatly appreciated) to facilitate planning and logistics.  We will send some details about location, directions and facilities (via Email) after your registrations are received.

NMMW works very hard to keep registration fees as low as possible.  We do have some funds to provide scholarship assistance for those who are eager to attend and in need of financial help.  Those applying for a scholarship need to complete and send in both a Mail-in Registration Form and a NMMW Scholarship Request Form.  Both of these forms may be downloaded to your computer (or other devices that have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed – see link below), and must be filled out, saved, and sent in as e-mail attachments to Charles Fisher at cfisher50@gmail.com. They may be optionally printed and mailed to the address on the registration form.  Applicants may delay payment until the scholarship is approved and are encouraged to send everything in as far in advance of the retreat as possible.  Early submission will improve your chances of receiving assistance.

We welcome all Fathers and Daughters to the Gathering.  Given the changing nature of family, we also welcome those who may be “non-traditional” Fathers and Daughters to participate.  If you have an interest in participating and any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by Email or phone.

Charles-Abi-2015-RHIf you know of someone who might have an interest or could benefit, please direct them to this web page at www.nmmw.org/f-d-2016  or have them contact Charles, Abi, Jan or Kate (contact information below).  Included here is a printable Acrobat PDF flyer (that we encourage you to share with other fathers and daughters who might be interested in this special Gathering) as well as a downloadable print-ready registration form that can also be shared and used to register.
