We lost an amazing young man with a kind heart, fantastic mind, and beautiful soul this week – our dear, young brother, Caleb Beck.

(This obit was written by Hannah Beck, Caleb’s sister, and posted on Caleb’s Facebook page, and is reposted here by request of Caleb’s father, Robby Beck.)

It is with enormous pain that I share the news with you: Caleb Beck was found dead August 11, 2016 in his Albuquerque home. Caleb was 28 years old. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kenneth Beck, and his maternal Aunt, Jill Cooper. He is survived by his Mother, Judith Cooper; his father, Robert Beck; his sisters, Meg Hendricks and Hannah Beck; his Granny, Mary Alice Beck; his Grandma and Poppy, Rena and Ronald Cooper; his Uncle, Ronnie Cooper; his Aunts, Gladie Green and Kitty Martin; as well as many other beloved extended family members.

Caleb was born December 3, 1987, in Clayton, New Mexico. He attended school at Texline ISD through 8th grade. Caleb then spent two-and-a-half years at New Mexico Military Institute, before attending and graduating from Clayton High School in 2006. Caleb had since lived in many places, including Tucomon, Argentina; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Landmark College in Putney, Virginia; Disney World in Orlando, Florida; and the University of Southern Oregon in Ashland, Oregon. He had completed his second year of UNM Law School before his death.

Caleb had “high highs” and “low lows”, and struggled with learning disabilities and finding life balance. However, Caleb’s life included much more: he had a great sense of humor, a vivid imagination, loved animals great and small, and had the ability to make friends wherever he went. He loved and was loved by many throughout his life. I welcome you to share your stories here on his Facebook page as a memorial.

At this time, we are planning a Celebration of Life gathering to take place in Clayton on September 10th. Time of day and location will be announced soon. I would like to ask you to honor Caleb by supporting your local mental health and community support systems, and your loved ones struggling with addiction and mental illness.

I know this will be a long haul for my family and Caleb’s friends. We are left with questions which may never be answered, but it is my fervent wish that we find forgiveness and compassion for ourselves, each other, and Caleb.

The public Celebration of Life for Caleb will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 12:00 noon at the Airpark, 2001 Water Street, in Clayton, NM, with a reception following at Caleb’s childhood home, 601 Main Street, Clayton, NM

The meeting of the NMMW Board of Directors will take place on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the offices of Action Disability Representatives in Albuquerque at 6:30pm.  The office is located at 630 Manzano NE Suite A, Albuquerque, NM, 87110.  This is two blocks west of San Mateo Blvd, and a half-block north of Lomas Blvd. in the “near” NE Heights of Albuquerque.

All are invited to attend, listen in, and bring comments and suggestions for how we can work together to make NMMW even better.  We ask that non-board members indicate their intent to attend in an Email to John Gervers (johngervers@gmail.com) or Stephen Poland (sfpoland@q.com) at least a couple of days in advance of the meeting.

Some copies of the agenda will be available at the meeting.  Revised minutes from the previous meeting (April 10, 2016) are posted here; the link will be found at the bottom of the page.
