OCTOBER 23-26, 2014

Notice: Registration for the NMMW Fall Conference is now closed.  As of October 8, we are no longer accepting payments for registration and have reached registration capacity for the facilities at Ghost Ranch.  We will still accept requests for the waiting list and some cancellations are likely so that some positions may open.  If interested in the waiting list, please contact conference leader, John Gervers, via email to, or by telephone (505) 466-2662 or (202) 236-3940 (mobile).  Those on the waiting list who cannot be accommodated but have already paid will be provided a full refund.

The 30th New Mexico Men’s Wellness Conference will be held October 23-26, 2014 at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.  This year, the theme is “Friendship – Men in Community”, a celebration of the friendships that we have formed – many through Men’s Wellness – and the community that has evolved from these friendships.  We are open to all, both old timers and men who will be coming for the first time to join this community and share their experiences of friendship.

We will share stories about close friendships and what has made them special; we will talk about creating new friendships and sustaining them over time; we will explore ways to resolve conflicts with friends and how to grieve the loss of a friendship; finally we will look at isolation, being friendless and how to regain connection and community. There will be opportunities to share and discuss many other issues that relate to men and their friendships.

The beauty of Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

We’ll have time to enjoy the amazing natural setting of Ghost Ranch and spend time in pairs, small groups, and large talking circles.  We include experiential activities that engage and open the mind, body, heart, and spirit to provide opportunities for reflection, relaxation, and shared meaning.  We might sit quietly, write, make art, create music, sing, have skits, and also “take time out” to befriend ourselves and other good men.

One thing is sure – this Fall Conference weekend can be transformational and bring you closer to the life you want to live. We invite you to come celebrate the 30th anniversary of New Mexico Men’s Wellness at Ghost Ranch this Fall.

Leadership and Planning for the Fall Conference

Thirty years ago Victor LaCerva started New Mexico Men’s Wellness and initiated the first Conference with a focus on men and their health. Our mission continues  “to nurture wellness in body, mind and spirit through the sharing of experiences across generations and cultures in safe, collaborative settings”.  Our strength is the participatory nature of Men’s Wellness.  Over the past 30 years the Fall Conference has had 25 leaders, drawn from the ranks of participants.  This year’s leader is John Gervers; his co-leader and successor next year is Charlie Lamson.  The heart of the Conference is the Planning Committee, open to all intended participants, who volunteer their time to develop the theme, create the sessions, and lead various elements of the Conference.  You are welcome to attend any of the planning sessions, which begin on July 21 at John Gervers’ home in Santa Fe and alternate between Albuquerque and Santa Fe every two weeks until the Conference.

The Buddha was asked, “Is good friendship, good companionship, good comradeship a part of the holy life?”

The Buddha answered, “No, good friendship, good companionship, good comradeship are not ‘a part of the holy life’, they are the entire holy life”.

Some Comments from Previous Participants in Men’s Wellness:

Over the years I have benefited enormously as a result of my deepening relationships with many of the extraordinary men I have met in the movement. Community, in the best meaning of that word, has emerged and become a powerful pillar of support.”

“Men’s Wellness saved my life.”

“Some of my deepest friends from this community were incredibly supportive throughout the time my wife was dying of cancer. Knowing that this community will find ways to show up for one in need is priceless.”

“The whole network has been an ongoing source of wonder and joy in my life, and helped make me a better man.”

Newcomers are welcome!

Come together with all the men in your men’s groups!

The costs of the Conference are as low as we can get from Ghost Ranch.  We want men of all financial circumstances to be able to participate in the Conference if they wish to do so.  For this reason we encourage men who want to participate but need some assistance to connect with John or Charlie (via phone or email below).  We also encourage men who can contribute to the scholarship fund to do so, to support those men who need it.  NMMW is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational corporation, and all donations to the scholarship fund or to other activities of the organization are deductible as charitable contributions.

If you are applying for Scholarship assistance to attend the conference, please download NMMW-Scholarship-Req-Form and complete it on your computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader.  To expedite the application process, please send the completed form to John Gervers via email at the address below (preferred) or by regular mail to John Gervers, 6 Cayuse Place, Santa Fe, NM 87508.  Please contact John or Charlie if you have questions related to scholarships.

Flyer to Distribute to Friends and Fellows:

We’re saving a seat for you and your friend!

We have prepared a flyer about the conference that can be printed, attached to Emails, posted where interested men would be likely to read it, and otherwise shared with anyone you think would enjoy and benefit from the Fall Conference.  The flyer is designed to be printed as a two-sided tri-fold brochure (looks best printed on a color printer).  Please click 2014-NMMW-Conference-Flyer to download (or view) the flyer in Acrobat PDF format.

** Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to fill out and save your registration form (so you can return it as an Email attachment) and for other forms and documents on this site. Saving of forms will NOT work with non-Adobe PDF readers (like the one that comes with iMacs and most tablets) so you will likely need to download it if you don’t already have it.
